ReceiptContext
Brown University's (founded as Rhode Island College) original location was in Warren, RI, on the current site of the First Baptist Church at the corner of Main and Miller Streets. James Manning was sworn in as the College's first president in 1765 and remained in the role until 1791. The College's first commencement was held in Warren in September 1769. The original building was burned to the ground by British and Hessian soldiers in 1778; the present First Baptist Church of Warren stands on the original site. In 1770, the College moved to its present location in Providence. (Some info from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Brown_University).Made/Created
