In GENERAL ASSEMBLY,
JUNE SESSION, 1776.
IN pursuance of the Recommendation of the Most Honorable the Continental Congress, Resolved, That an Account be immediately taken of the Number of Inhabitants in each Town in this Colony: That the Persons whole Names are set down in the subsequent Lift be, and they are hereby, appointed a Committee for the Purpose, to wit:
NEWPORT, Messrs, George Sears, William Coddington and Gideon Wanton; PROVIDENCE, Messrs, Martin Seamdes; and Theodore Fofler; PORTSMOUTH, Mr. "John Coddington"; WARWICK, Mr. Charles Holden; WESTERLY, Messers. Ichabod Babcock and Jefeib(?) Crandall; SOUTH-KINGSTOWN, Mr. Daniel Redman; EAST-GREENWICH, Mr. Thomas Shefield; JAMESTOWN, Mr. Benjamin Underweed; SMITHFIELD, Mr. Daniel Moury, jun. SCITUATE, Mr. Christopher Petter, or Mr. William Well; GLOUCESTER, Mr. Zebeder Hopkins, jun. CHARLESTOWN, Mr. Jonathan Hazard; WEST-GREEMSWICH, Mr. Judiah Alyworth; COVENTRY, Mr. Ephraim Welfeet; EXETER, Mr. George Pierre; MIDDLETOWN, Mr. John Baker; BRISTOL, Mr. Shearjasub Bourn; TIVERTON, Messrs. John Cooke and Walter Cooke; LITTLE-COMPTON, Mr. Thomas Brewnell; WARREN, Mr. William Miller; CUMBERLAND, Mr. John Dexter; RICHMOND, Mr. Richard Bailey; CRANSTON, Mr. Zuriel Waterman; HOPKINTON, Mr. Thomas Wells; JOHNSTON, Mr. John Fenner; NORTH-PROVIDENCE, Mr. Jonathan Jenches, jun. and BARRINGTON, Mr. Thomas Allen: That they take the Account in the same Manner as the Inhabitants of this Colony were left numbered: That the said Committee be under Engagement to the faithful Discharge of the Trust reposed in them; And that they make Report to this Assembly at the next Session.
