Stained Glass Window dedicated to Alice Tavares PozziEntry/Object ID
2025.02.25.21Description
After the restoration of the George Hail Library in the 1980s, there remained one element that needed to be addressed. One last window on the south wall over the stairway needed to be filled with stained glass.
Lombard Pozzi, a Bristol native, was the restoration architect for the Library project. After his mother, Alice Tavares Pozzi, died in 1991, he decided to design and donate a new window, and dedicate it to his mother’s memory. Alice, who was raised in the south end of Warren, was the daughter of Portuguese immigrants. She graduated from Warren High, married Lombard’s father, had two children, and managed the pharmacy in Bristol that she owned with her husband. Mr. Pozzi, also named Lombard, served as the pharmacy’s druggist.
The window’s theme is Learning, and it includes a lamp emitting rays of light, a quill pen in an inkwell, and a book. The dedication at the bottom of the window states, “In Memory of Alice Tavares Pozzi Who Loved This Library”.
