Scrimshaw 1858-1862 Sperm whale tooth Carved by Dwight Clifford Stocking while on board the bark Camilla. Dwight joined the crew of the Camilla in May 1858 as an "ordinary boy." Ordinary crewmen - or foremast hands - were the lowest ranked members of a whaling crew.
