Notes

Administrative History: Dr. William J. Bunnell was an embalming surgeon during the Civil War. Apparently embalming became quite a business because many families wanted their loved ones remains sent home for burial. It was common for soldiers to pin tags to their uniforms stating their name and home town. In some instances, embalming coupons would be used. This was not an inexpensive proposition.
