Quilt. Pieced and appliquéd crazy quilt; 61"h x 63"w. C.1880. Constructed of 5 rows of 4 blocks each. Top and bottom row has small blocks, 5"h x 15"w; center 3 rows have large blocks, 16"h x 15"w. Each block constructed of pieces in a variety of sizes, shapes and fabrics. Fabrics include silks, polished cottons and velvets in blacks, browns, reds, blues, stripes and prints. Decorative stitching along seams between all pieces. Decorative needlework on some pieces; includes a butterfly, deer, and several flowers. One appliquéd bouquet of flowers and one appliquéd leaf. One black velvet piece is decorated with a painted pansy. Backing is red cotton; quilted in the outline of the front pieces. Bound by bringing backing over front.Acquisition
