Desk, slant-front. Taneytown or western Maryland area, c. 1800. 41.5"h x 40"w x 20.25"d. Primary wood is cherry. Interior drawers have sides and back of yellow pine; bottom is poplar; front is walnut covered with a flame mahogany veneer. Document drawers have sides, back, and bottom of poplar; front is walnut with mahogany veneer. Prospect door is mahogany in a cherry frame. Hidden drawers have sides and back of yellow pine; bottom is poplar; front is walnut. Compartment box has wedged dovetails. Exterior bottom drawers have cherry front; sides, back, and bottom are poplar. There are a total of three drawers, consisting of two top drawers over a double drawer. The frame is poplar. The backboards are vertical tongue-in-groove poplar. Bracket feet. Locks are original; hinges have been replaced; the exterior drawers have c. 1875 pendant pulls placed over a black and gold painted medallion over location of original oval pulls.Acquisition
