85"h x 55"w x 83"d. Tall post bedstead, with wood framework connecting tops of posts. Top half of posts are smooth, turned, bottom half are rough, octangonal with tapered feet. Headboard has large horizonatal turned post with ball ends, also two C-scrolls with notched design, and raised beveled rectangular section in center. Footboard is plain with half-circle cut out of each side. Rope mattress supports.General Notes

Shellman House inventory: "1810-1830. Maker unknown. Possibly Westminster, MD. Maple, tulip poplar (refinished). Gift of B. Edna Erb and Lillian Erb Byers. Family tradition maintains that the bedstead was originally owned by John Erb (1789-1863) who lived at "The Oaks" in Union Mills, Md." Erb was one of the first Carroll County Commissioners. Provenance information contained in letter in HSCC files; letter not dated.
