Bookcase. 1820-1840, made by John Needles of Baltimore. Reifsnider family bookcase. Mahogany with matched maple veneers. Two pieces. Base has flat top and stands on ball feet. Drop front panel opens to reveal numerous small compartments, interior of panel lined with green felt as writing surface. Below this are 2 doors which open to reveal several drawers for clothing storage; doors flanked by reeded pilasters with stylized leaves. Upper bookcase section has 2 glass front doors and distinctive pediment. Interior of doors has tack marks from draperies to protect books. Shelves slide into notches in side of case.
