GiftGeneral Notes
Note
Original deed of gift reads "Pottery bread bowl - T Crawford - potter". Theodore Crawford operated a pottery on Smelser Mill Road between Uniontown and New Windsor. Crawford signed, dated and priced the piece on the underside. Note from donor [undated but presumably at time of donation] reads in part: "This particular piece has been in the Formwalt family all these years. In the year 1908, my mother-in-law Mrs. Edward Formwalt came into possession of it. She in turn gave it to me in 1944. Seeing the date & value of it historically I never used it. It was used as a container for small amounts of rising bread also as a bowl in which to work butter. We used it as a container in which to cool batches of preserves before jarring."
