General Notes

Note

Original deed of gift reads "Marble Bust of Mrs. Mygatt (Sarah Matilda Robertson) by William Henry Rinehart, Rome 1860". Mrs. Mygatt visited Rinehart's studio in Rome while on the grand tour of Europe. Rinehart produced a full-size clay model from life; Italian stonecutters then produced the finished work in marble. Mr. & Mrs. Donald Detwiler (owners of Myrtle Hill in Keymar) located the piece in New York in the possession of the donor, a cousin of Mrs. Mygatt. Old list of donations (not dated) lists "Mrs. & Mrs. Donald J. Detwiler - bust of Aunt Tillie Mygatt." The deed of gift is marked "in the Shellman house Great room" and "large parlor 1984".
