Chair. Empire style, klismos side chair, cane seat, original black paint and polychrome and gilt stenciled seashells and foliage on crest rail; gilt stenciled foliage on stay rail. Short tapered stiles with gold stretched heart design, and cluster of ring turnings. Cane seat, rounded elbows, wide painted lines on side rails. Turned and tapered front legs with ball foot. Front stretcher with ring turning in center, and one plain spindle stretcher on each side and the back. 31.5" x 17.125" x 18". Baltimore, Md., 1820-1840.Acquisition
