Chair, dining. Ladderback armchair. Five curved slats, straight rear posts with slightly tapered ends, turned pointed finials. Curved arms with rounded hand rests, supported by front legs that are turned at top and have tapered feet with collar. Front stretcher is turned. Two spindle stretchers on sides and one in back. Note
Original deed of gift reads "Ladder Back Chair". AF tag: "Longenecker armchair Donor: Rev. and Mrs. Wm. E. Roop." Chair descended in the Roop family. Joseph Longenecker (b.1834, Adams County, PA - d.1909, Uniontown) was primarilty a blacksmith but also acted as a cabinetmaker. Most of his chairs appear to have been made during the 1850s and 1860s. He was a member of the Pipe Creek Brethren Church.
