Clock, tall case. Dated 1815. Works by Eli Bentley, cabinetmaker unknown. Case is mahogany with mahogany veneer. A: body, French bracket feet; fluted, chamfered corners on waist, diamond-shaped ivory escutcheon. B: hood, scrolled pediment, fluted columns on each corner, arched window in door. Note

Clock was made for Joseph and Mary Kalb Biggs. They owned a large stone house in Keysville, built in 1814. Original price of the clock was $95.00. Eli Bentley was born in Doe Run, PA. After his marriage to Mary Hunter in 1772, he purchased a home near West Chester, PA. He lived there until 1778 when he moved to Taneytown. He remained in Taneytown until his death in 1822.
