The clothing you see hanging and folded comes from the Society’s decorative use and education collections. Research revealed that hanging clothing from iron bars for display was a very common practice in tailor and clothing shops, sometimes called a wardrobe bar. The bolts of fabric on the unfinished shelves are also period-appropriate and include cotton (gingham) and wool of popular colors and patterns from the period. Typically, individuals would be fitted and select fabrics and styles in a shop such as this.Exhibition
