Coverlet. Peter Warner. Jacquard; warp of natural and blue cotton; weft of natural cotton with brown, red and navy wools. Two pieces, seamed down center. Alternating colors and patterns form stripe design; rows have floral medallion and double roses, alternating with rows of leaf medallion and stars with 8 double-points. Border down side has buildings and trees; grapevine pattern across bottom. Corner block reads "P. WARNER CARROLL COUNTY 1861 R.H. FOWBLE." Reads "FANCY PATENT" across bottom. Fringed across bottom and down sides. 90.5" x 88".Context
This coverlet was given as a wedding gift to Mrs. Rachel Fowble Benson from her mother in 1861, her mother spun the yarn from which P. Warner of C. C. wove coverlet.Acquisition
