Set of four tan horn cups for cupping in graduated sizes (a-d). Large cracks along edge in three out of four cups total. Original accession numbers from Carroll County Farm Museum are 839.1.1A-D.Context
Unlike glass sets, some cupping devices were made from animal horn. The hollow horn acted as a natural vessel, forming a tight seal against the skin when heated. As it cooled, it pulled the skin upward, concentrating blood at the surface or drawing it out through small cuts. Horn cups were durable and commonly used in early medical practice.Exhibition
