On June 5th, 1832, John Brooke Boyle married Elizabeth Maynadier Scott, daughter of John and Elizabeth Key Bruce Scott. Though the Scotts were from Annapolis, the family had strong ties to Taneytown. The couple had six children: Daniel, Mary, Charles, Henry, Helen, and John.
The Boyles purchased Cockey's in 1872. After Mrs. Boyle died in 1876, Mr. Boyle continued to live in the house with five of his unmarried children: Mary, Daniel, Norman, Joseph, and Elizabeth. In 1886, Boyle deeded half of the building- 218 East Main Street- to his daughter Helen and her husband Harry Irwin. In 1893, Boyle deeded this half of the building- 216 East Main Street- to his daughter Elizabeth and her husband Charles E. Fink with the condition that her sister Mary could live there for the rest of her life.
