Description

Table, sewing. American, Johnsville - Union Bridge area, Frederick and Carroll Counties, Maryland, c. 1830-1847. Primary wood is cherry and mahogany veneer. Top rail, bottom rail, and drawer divider are covered with a mahogany veneer. Drawers (2): Drawer fronts are covered with a flame mahogany veneer and edged in maple. Sides, backs, and bottoms are of poplar. There is also a three part compartment in the front third of the drawer, also of poplar. The back of the top drawer contains an inscription in pencil that reads "Presented to Margaret Ellen / Buckey by her Father / February 4th 1847 / the day she was 10 years / old." 30"h x 22"w x 18.5"d; table top measures 22" x 18.5"; drawer section measures 11.5"h x 20"w x 17"d; legs are 16"h.
