Capt. William P. Farquhar, and later Jacob Baumgardner, containing records of a company of volunteer militia in the 1st Infantry Regiment of the Maryland Militia (originally designated the 47th), which served primarily at Fort Hampstead (now Patterson Park, Baltimore) during the British campaign against the city; the unit mustered at Union Bridge, Carroll Co., Md., on August 1, 1814, and the book contains lists of officers and men on that date, with names of additional volunteers through August 20; followed by transcripts of two or three general orders; and near-daily "Morning Reports," from August 12 through September 21 (with gaps at the Battle of Bladensburg and attack on Baltimore), summarizing the number of soldiers in service or unavailable for a variety of causes, about 18 pages in all; the book subsequently used as an account book by a storekeeper in Union Bridge from 1830-1832; marbled paper board cover.Acquisition
