Helmet. Maryland Civil Defense. Steel, white; high domed crown with 2” brim; web of cotton straps inside allows for size adjustment; Civil Defense sticker on front is blue circle with white triangle at center; CD in red at center of triangle; “MARYLAND” in white below triangle. Stamped on underside of brim at back "U.S. GOVT PROPERTY O C D". 6” x 11.75” x 13”.

Note

Robert H. Barnes (1919 – 1 February 1983) was born in Westminster, the son of Clarence and Mattie Harman Barnes. He worked for United Insurance Co. of America for 33 years, 17 as an assistant manager, and as a debt agent until his death. He married Catherine M. Hahn. They had two children: Robert N. Barnes [the donor] and Shirley K. [Melder]. He is buried at the Pipe Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
