Description

Kit, medicine. Belonged to Dr. Francis J. Crawford. Rectangular box, domed hinged lid. Wood, covered in hide with strips of red leather held on with round tacks, notched trim along front edge. C-shaped metal handle on top of lid.Lined with newspaper. 7"h x 15"w x 8.5"d.

Context

Dr. Francis Jesse Crawford (1819-1885) used this small deerskin-covered medical case to carry his supplies and equipment when he visited patients. The interior of the trunk is lined with pages from a June 1840 Baltimore newspaper.
