Harry Buckingham entered the service as a Private in Company C, “Cole’s Cavalry,” 1st Regiment Potomac Home Brigade Cavalry, in August 1861. He was promoted to Corporal and then Sergeant before being commissioned a Second Lieutenant in May 1864. Buckingham was promoted to Captain in November of that year.
