Original deed of gift reads "1 Lock from the Adam Good Tavern in Taneytown, Carroll County, Maryland." George and Martha Washington spent the night at the Good Tavern on July 1, 1791. Washington is reported to have been amused by the tavern sign which read "A dam Good Tavern Entertainment for Man or Beast."
