Note

Original deed of gift reads "Civil War Medal of Wm. A. McKellip". Badge belonged to Col. William McKellip of Taneytown, who served with the 6th Regiment, Maryland Volunteers Infantry. McKellip resigned his commission in 1863 due to injuries received in a fall from his horse. The badge was for members of the Society of the Army of the Potomac, a veterans' organization.
