Belonged to donor’s grandfather, Dr. Lewis Woodward (b. 18 May 1878 – d. 16 November 1969). Woodward graduated from Western Maryland College and then got his medical degree from Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia in 1899. Microscope was probably purchased while he was a medical student. He practiced in Westminster, first at 31 W. Main St. untile 1928 and then at 1 Park Ave. (Belle Grove Square). Woodward served as Registrar of Births and Deaths for Carroll County, was consulting physician for Western Maryland College, was president of the Carroll County Medical Society (1911-12), vice-president of the Medical and Chirurgical Faculty of Maryland (1932-33). He married Phoebe Helen Neidig 28 April 1903. They had 4 sons: William Neidig, Lewis Klair, Jr., John Roop, and Theodor Englar. see Carroll County Physicians, p.59.
