Quilt. Pieced and appliquéd quilt. 80" x 80". Constructed of 16 blocks, approximately 16" each. Blocks arranged in 4 rows of 4 squares; squares machine stitched together. Flowers in solid and print pastel colors (green, blue, pink, lavender and yellow) hand appliquéd to each block. Handstitched decorative patterns include wreaths, stars, pinwheels and leaves. Border is 7.5" white cotton with floral and vine appliqué. White bias binding machine stitched to front and hand stitched to back. White cotton backing. C.1920.Context
Donor grew up in Towson after the death of her father, George C. Tracey, in 1921 when she was 8 years old. She visited her uncle, R. Price Tracey, on his farm in Carroll County. Quilt was made by Lulu Tracey and given to donor as a wedding present on the occasion of her marriage to Richard E. Harper, 30 June 1937.Acquisition
