Quilt. Pieced album quilt. 76.5" x 76.5". Red and white diamond pattern composed of 100 white blocks with signatures and 81 undecorated red blocks. Blocks measure 4.5". Center block has picture of the Stone Chapel and inscription "STONE CHAPEL BUILT 1783 REBUILT 1800 Again Rebuilt 1884-5. Red and white striped border. Backing of white cotton. 1900.Context
Made by the Ladies' Mite Society of Stone Chapel M.E. Church in New Windsor to raise money for the Sunday school library. Names on the signature blocks are those who contributed to the library fund. Drawing at center was designed by Mrs. E.J. Manahan, President of the Mite Society. Original deed of gift reads "Stone chapel Memorial quilt - 1911".
