Description

Quilt. Pieced quilt in Tumbling Blocks pattern. 60" x 86.5". Constructed of 36 blocks, each of which is made of 3 pieces; fabrics are woven, striped and flowered silks. Hand sewn. There is a paper backing basted to the back of each piece. Paper numbers basted to short edge show how quilt was assembled. Top only; no fill or backing. Mid-1800s.

Note

Original deed of gift reads "circa: 1837 Baby blocks silk Quilt". Tag on roll reads "Tumble block quilt. No backing. Paper supports." Quilts were erroneously cataloged again in 1979 like the coverlets, possibly resulting in duplicated deeds of gift. This may be an example of this.
