(A) 7"h x 2.25"w. Yellow ribbon. Four sections connected by chains, top to bottom: (1) brass pin- man on horseback, "GAR 39th NATIONAL ENCAMPMENT," (2) gold plate bar "DELEGATE," (3) silver picture of mineshaft with caption "MINING," flanked by two gold plated ovals with pictures of steer and horse & plow with captions "CATTTLE" and "FARMING," (4) eagle and five-pointed star- in center copper bas-relief portrait and "GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC DENVER, 1905." On back: "Whitehead & Hoag Co." Tag on back: "The Whitehead & Hoag Co. Newark N.J." (B) Case: 0.875"h x 3"w x 9"d. Green hinged rectangular box.

Part of collection of objects belonging to John H. Mitten. Mitten served in Co. A, 6th Maryland Infantry. He was wounded at the Wilderness, 5 May 1864. He was very active in the G.A.R. Deed of gift reads "medal, 'Delegate, GAR 39th National Encampment, Denver, Colorado, 1905', original case"
