Painting, watercolor and ink on light brown paper, 10" x 7.875", oval portrait of Mrs. David (Rebecca Ferree) Shriver, Sr. (1742-1812) facing right proper edge, pigments used include blue, black, red, and yellow, details on face and hair in ink, handwritten mark in pencil at bottom reads "Wife of David Shriver / Pipe Creek", different handwritten mark in pencil reads "Rebecca de Fere / of / Piquer, Lancaster Co. Rebecca Ferree (1742-1812) was born in Lancaster County, Pa and married David Shriver, Sr. in 1762. She was the mother of five boys and three daughters. One of her sons, David, Jr., married Eve Sherman of Westminster; they were among the first residents of the Sherman-Fisher-Shellman house.
