Note
Part of a series of Westminster souvenir models commissioned by the Hickory Stick, a gift shop at 28 Liberty, the corner of Liberty and Green Streets. Martha Hopkins opened the Hickory Stick as a country store in 1983 on Pennsylvania Avenue in Westminster. In the early years of the store, it featured country furniture, historic lighting, wall stencils, country wall decor including framed prints and dried floral arrangements. In 1990, Martha sold the business to Cindy Raub and Sandy Scott. They doubled their space on Pennsylvania Avenue by taking over the second floor of the building and then moved to 28 Liberty Street in 1995. Cindy left the business in 1999. The business switched from "country gifts and home accents" to a boutique featuring unique gifts and fashion accessories. St. John's parish moved to a new church on Monroe Ave. in 1972; the old church was demolished in 1977 to make way for the Carroll County Public Library.
