Note

Mary B. Shellman(1849-1938) was a leading citizen of Westminster and Carroll County in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. She founded Westminster's Memorial Day parade in 1868, making it one of the oldest continuous observations of Memorial Day in the nation. In 1932 she left Westminster to live with family in Oklahoma and Texas, but returned to Westminster in 1937 to participate in Westminster's Memorial Day observances on the occasion of Carroll County's centennial.
