Description

Watch, pocket. Hunting case watch. Ornate gold case, decorated front and back; has two bands of copper, brass and silver flowers above several columns of intricately cut scrolling; at center of front is small shield for monogram (not inscribed); at center back is 8-pointed star with small diamond at center. Glass over face; face has roman numerals and separate dial for seconds. Works inscribed "AMERICAN WALTHAM WATCH CO. SAFETY BARREL 5517615 [serial number]". 2.25"h x 1.625"w x .625"d.

Note

Belonged to donor’s grandmother, Margaretta Reistine Jones McCoy. Margaretta married Thomas L. Jones and they had 3 children: Thomas L., Catherine and Mary. After Thomas’s death in 1851, Margaretta remarried in 1851 and had a son, Edmund S. McCoy. Edmund owned a farm near Oakland Mills in Carroll County. Edmund married Anna Matilda Brown. Their daughter, Anna Margaretta McCoy [8 December 1907 - 22 February 2005], was the donor.
