Caption "A four-car passenger train headed south toward Chicago, stood at the Waukegan, Illinois depot. Engine 229 is a class A, American Standard type and was built by Schenectady in January of 1899. In the right background is the roundhouse. On the pilot of the engine are three hoses; from left to right they are: brake pipe, signal pipe, and steam hose. Close inspection of the roofs of the coaches indicates the absence of smoke jacks indicating these cars are steam heated. Date unknown."
