Description

Chicago, North Shore & Milwaukee Railroad New Gate Tower in Lake Bluff. Shortly after its construction the new gate tower on the north side of Scranton Avenue was photographed on May 20, 1923. Sheridan Road can be seen on the right. The gates protected the crossing of the North Shore Line over the entrance road to the Chicago & Northwestern station. While some of the design elements of the tower may be considered as being from the Prairie School, this tower is more in the Craftsman style. images are also on a CD (1982.3.1 - 1982.3.29)
