Description

Durand Institute, Lake Forest College. Architect: Henry Ives Cobb. Built 1891. Named after Henry C. Durand, this building was constructed at a cost of $50,000, to be used as an art institute. It was built of brown sandstone from Lake Michigan. The style is French Romanesque. Originally the interior contained an auditorium and library, both done in elaborate oak wood paneling. In 1980, the building reopened after being closed for 3 years while it was remodeled by architect Edward Noonan.
