Peter Elliot: "If only because it felt like all of Lake Forest was there, this photo feels like it requires little context. Taken at the Black Lives Matter rally held in June 2020 at Market Square, this portrait of our community captures our current moment of pandemic, unity, and change. As a journalist for The Forest Scout, Lake Forest High School’s student newspaper, I am always seeking out stories that are engaging, thought-provoking, and relevant to our readers. I have covered all kinds of local events, from school board meetings to football games, but the rally was a wholly different experience. I expected a sizable crowd, but I never anticipated a turnout so massive that it would end up being the largest public protest in Lake Forest history. I’ll never forget the day when Lake Forest united for the cause of racial justice, and pledged to listen, act, and lead."
