(This is NOT the north Gymnasium, as indicated on back of photo, in fact, it is the Durand Art institute) North Gymnasium, Lake Forest College. Architect: Henry Ives Cobb. Built: 1891. Photo dated 1979. Constructed at a cost of $30,000, this was one of the best equipped gymnasiums in the Midwest. Built of brown sandstone, it was the gift of Senator Charles B. Farwell. It has been closed since 1969 when the interior was damaged by fire.
