Description

Black and white sepia toned photograph of the Lake Forest Horse Show. Image shows ladies and gentlemen seated in sections. Most of the ladies are wearing white dresses and hats, while the men are wearing summer suits and hats. Verso in pencil hand written " LF Horse Show 1910- ? or polo at Ferry Field? (1885) Grace Tuttle Chandler in 1984 said this is a view of 'Ferry Field' which extended from Spruce Ave. to the ravine north to 'Ferry Woods.' There were brick 'pillars' on either side of Sheridan Rd. marked 'Ferry Field' and 'Ferry Woods' in cement. Polo first was played on Ferry Field before Onwentsia. Bertha Durand Yaggy informed Katherine Arpee of this in 1970"
