Description

"#36: Mary Aldis' inlaid secretary with a black and white marble top. She used it as her desk in the Playhouse. It was one of the pieces that was part of the inlaid Sheritan furniture that was in the dining room of the big house once she moved from 100 E. Chicago Avenue - side board; table and fourteen chairs; silver cabinet; corner china cabinet. (The mirror picked up reflection, sorry to say - can be reshot to remove it, of course.)" "#37: The ovals and corners are rose wood, wondrously knarled and knotty, as cut. Marble top is brow and a bit of white. It came out of Bluebird and was a serving table. We use it as a liquor cabinet." "#38: I wrote about this morris chair, earlier. Rowena Fry's painting #4 [absent from 2022.5.14], hangs above it." "#39: This sofa, which sits three comfortably, was in Arthur's bedroom in the Playhouse. Carved lion heads on the arms, feet that match on the legs, is paneled, stained oak. Very unusual. Very comfortable to sit in. Ample enough, long enough, to be a bed, really." -Notes provided by Roy E. Porter, son-in-law of Graham Aldis, and grandson-in-law of Arthur Aldis.
