Mary Aldis and Countess Gizycka (Eleanor Medill Patterson, called Cissy) in August Strindberg's "The Stronger". Cissy joined the Playhouse after she was invited to star in her brother, Joseph Medill Patterson's one-act play, "By-Products". Cissy was married to the Polish Count Gizycka, but the relationship ended in divorce and a custody battle over their daughter. Joseph, in an effort to help provide distraction, asked Cissy to read through the lines with him, and did so with such vigour, that he asked her to formally take the roll.
Roy Porter, the son-in-law of Dorothy and Graham Aldis, made notes on the original photo before he made this copy.
