"Adlai Stevenson Jr. with sons Adlai III and John in 1952. Adlai Ewing Stevenson Jr. was born in 1900. Both the Stevenson and Ewing families had come to the United States from Scotland. In 1935, Stevenson purchased land in Mettawa, Illinois where he built his home. Adlai served as Governor of Illinois from 1949-1953, and was the Democratic Party's nomination for President in 1952 and 1956."
