Description

Copy of a black and white photograph of the Lake Forest Rainbow girls, 1952. Clarissa Carnahan Mellen is second from the right in the photo on the text panel. She is 17 in the photo. She said the older ladies were the advisors - the Grand Matron on the left and the "Worthy Grand Matron" in the middle. According to Clarissa, "She was in a Rainbow Girls group in Waukegan and someone asked their group if they would come to Lake Forest to form a core group in Lake Forest. This is how she ended up here. The Rainbow Girls were based on the premise of being nice and upstanding young women. While it was not a religious group, they did say prayers at the beginning of the meetings. Clarissa met her husband at one of the activities, about the time the photo was taken."
