photo of a man sitting on a rock near the road. A sign behind him says "Green Tree Inn." This photo is identical to 2004.50.11 In 1922, the old Lancaster house, on property purchased by Louis F. Swift, was moved to 1101 S. Waukegan Road, remodeled, and converted into the Green Tree Inn. Proprietor Ambrose J. Montavon served chicken and steak dinners there until the Inn burned down in January 1935. With the advent of an improved road, the Lancaster house was moved farther east, remodeled and converted into the Green Tree Inn in 1922. Mr. Swift's house--moved from the Fritsch place and remodeled to modern requirements for the Kostail family--stood between the garage and the Green Tree Inn. Located at 1101 South Waukegan Road, a Lake Forest landmark, the structure burned to the ground January 23, 1935.
