"James Simpson was born in Glasgow in 1874. At age 17 je landed a job at Marshall Field and Company. Within a year he was working as a personal clerk for Field and asked for a raise. Marshall Field replied: 'Young man, at your age I was making $3 a week!' 'Well Mr. Field,' replied Simpson, 'perhaps that is all you were worth." Field gave James the raise."
