Scope and Content

Baker's Coconut ad: I never saw a pink elephant until Baker's Coconut. Full-page color advertisement by (Franklin Baker Division) General Foods, White Plains, N.Y. as published in unknown magazine, probably 1962, page unknown. Clipped leaf, 10-1/4" x 13-5/8" high. Promoted Baker's Angel Flake Coconut with boxed package depicting the Pink Elephant cut-up cake and "Cut-Up Cake Ideas Inside Package." on wrappers. The package appears to be the printed cellophane over a cardboard tray; clear window displaying product. The General Foods Kitchens logo is seen in color.. End date for Franklin Baker operations in Hoboken has not been established, but as this ad shows, General Foods has dropped the Franklin Baker name and Hoboken address. The 1962 date is as stated by donor and it is known to have appeared in publications in 1962; the 1961date is more probable as it is derived from another ad on reverse where a known company established in 1879 stated it had provided '"82 years of service."
