Description

Photograph album of fifteen Holland (Hudson Vehicular) Tunnel documentation photos, 1924-1925. Digital images only; large tiffs media archive; PDF on file; media disks. Original: three-ring binder, 9" high x 11-1/2" wide x 1-1/4" thick, black cloth. Personal copy of John C. McEnroe with gilt stamped name on front cover - see below for more about McEnroe. Laid-in: six other prints varying as to original or modern; all but one a duplicate print; separately catalogued as 2012.017.0100 to .0105. This album is from the personal papers of John C. McEnroe who was the Secretary of the New Jersey Interstate Bridge and Tunnel Commission. It was the New Jersey authority cooperating with a New York Commission for overseeing the project. He died on June 2, 1925. This album is typical as one that would have been issued to each commissioner for official use. McEnroe appears in one photo, see image no. 5548 below and photo 2012.017.0101. All prints were 7-3/8" high x 9-3/8" wide (orientation varying) plus 1-3/8" wide binder tab; linen mounted; trimmed borders; information directly typewritten on cloth except for three (nos. 7012, 7013, 7014) which have carbon onionskin tipped to linen. All prints except 8001 may also be found in albums available at New York Public Library Digital Gallery (where only the basic captions are transcribed.) Short list of photos and dates in image number order. See notes for the list with the full caption. They are not in date order.
