Description

Black-and-white lantern slide of Irish immigrants, children at play, on deck of a ship, no place (United Kingdom), 1898. Photograph attributed by dealer to English photographer Alfred Lindridge along with description and date. A view of three girls and a boy playing ring toss. None have been identified. 3-1/4" square glass mount with usual black paper edges; image 2-3/8" high x 2-7/8" wide. No markings on item. --- The vessel that these passengers are on likely sailed to New York, but unknown if it was a steamship line that docked in Hoboken. They may have been processed as immigrants at Ellis Island. The photograph may be considered useful as a typical ship board scene of the era. ---- photography / photographic / glass slide / ocean liner / passenger ship / immigration / emigration
