The railroad crossing signs are for tracks of the New York Central Railroad, Erie Railroad and the primary right-of-way holder, New Jersey Junction Railroad. Note the crossing gates are in the down position.
A right detail of the east facade of the control tower shows the windows open and a switchman standing at the control levers. Beyond the tower is a smaller building with a partially visible sign: Railroad Station.
A left detail shows the gateman's house (there actually are two); a sign for E.L. Mansfield Natural Ice Depot; a policeman stands in the street east of the crossing gate.
Street level streetcar or trolley tracks are Public Service Coordinated Transport.
